Can you move into real estate without sales experience?
Yes, a non-sales background does not rule out a move into independent real estate advisory work. But you must be willing to learn how to build a client base, train and work methodically. The question is not just “have I sold before?” but “am I ready to do the actual work involved?”.
Previous experience and skills to develop

Do not reduce your background to a job title. Have you explained a procedure, dealt with an unhappy customer, organised several cases or honoured a difficult commitment? Write down three specific situations, your actions and the result you observed. These are discussion examples, not evidence of certified real estate competence.
People skills and commercial activity are not the same

Listening helps; waiting for enquiries is not an activity plan. Ask an adviser to describe a real week: finding contacts, appointments, follow-up and preparing files. Identify what appeals to you and what feels uncomfortable. An uncomfortable task can become a learning objective.
A simple exercise before you decide
Divide a sheet into three columns: “I can already do this”, “I need to learn this” and “I want to observe this”. Sort five tasks: contacting someone new, asking precise questions, explaining complex information, organising follow-up and accepting a refusal without insisting.
Then practise a ten-minute discovery conversation with someone you know. Aim to understand a need and restate it, without a memorised sales pitch. Note one difficulty and ask how training would address it. This is personal preparation, not a selection test.
Questions for your future mentor
Before committing, ask for specific answers:
- Who will answer my initial questions, and how?
- What learning pathway suits my starting point?
- Can I see an anonymised example of a schedule and follow-up?
- How are early appointments prepared and reviewed?
- Which costs, tools and commitments should I check in current documents?
Do not settle for a promise of availability: ask for an example of how support works. Your personal organisation, available time and the resources needed also deserve discussion.
Check the framework for practising

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be extroverted?
The issue is whether you can start a professional conversation, listen and follow up. Do not draw conclusions from a personality label alone: look at specific tasks.
Does training replace practice?
Plan for both learning and opportunities to apply it with feedback. Ask what is actually offered rather than assuming everything is included.

Describe your background, intended country of activity and questions. An initial conversation in French or Spanish helps identify what to examine, without commitment.
